"We are Such Stuff as Dreams are Made on........"

  • Students love the language of Shakespeare

  • Musicality, movement and imagination skills are developed

  • Teamwork is key - every child is fully involved

  • Junior Cert Shakespeare is demystified

Our Junior Shakespeare Company starts with workshop auditions at the end of August and runs up to mid November, on Sunday afternoons.

Taking one of Shakespeare’s plays that has been especially abridged to just 30 minutes in length, we work towards our performances in The MAC in Belfast in early November, followed by a home venue performance a couple of weeks later.

A high level of commitment is required and the rewards are huge!

Included are:

  • Intensive rehearsals every Sunday from 2pm-4pm during September and October.

  • 3 or 4 full days of training and rehearsals during the October mid- term break after the bank holiday weekend.

  • A workshop day in Belfast with another school led by facilitators from the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

  • A performance as part of the prestigious Schools Shakespeare Festival in The MAC, Belfast and the chance to watch 3 other Shakespeare plays that night.

  • Stay overnight in Vagabonds, Belfast

  • A trip to the Titanic Exhibition, W5, or the Ulster Museum or similar.

  • Home venue performances that can be attended by friends and family.

The cost is €150 per student to participate (Sept/October workshops and rehearsals and including the October mid-term rehearsals and the participation fee) plus costs (costumes, train fares, food and accommodation overnight in Belfast approx €120).

We encourage the parents to get on board to organise some fundraising activities (karaoke night/sponsored dramathon) to help pay for the costs, including overnight in Belfast and transport, costumes, props and so on. This is a collaborative project that everyone is expected to get involved with and support.

ITW Shakespeare Company is for ITW Members only.
