Following on from the incredible performances by our ITW Dance Companies at PERFORM in the RDS this weekend (you can see their performances on ITW STUDIOS VIMEO here) I just want to let you know about some great productions that are on in the theatre and cinema over the coming weeks that you should try and catch if you can - especially over mid term break. Tickets won't break the bank on many of these shows either! All (except 1) have ITW Students and Graduates performing in them - which I am extremely proud of!! BREAK a LEG to all involved!
Tir na nÓg - Smock Alley Theatre - 30 minute magical musical that features ITW Grads and teachers Inga Bourke Mullaney and Lucy Richards Smyrk alongside ITW Graduates Sarah Gordon and Ali Ni Muirichu - perfect for families - TICKETS and INFO HERE part of the Scene and Heard Festival -which gives theatre companies a chance to test the waters with a 30 minute version of their new productions.
A Little Heart - Smock Alley Theatre- another 30 minute musical that is written by Cillian O'Donnachadha (a past teacher from ITW where he workshopped this musical several years ago with our Young Adults!) This stars ITW Grad Mella Carron alongside ITW Grads Roy Grimson and Ailbhe Casey - a gorgeous piece of childrens theatre using puppetry and performance to tell it's story. TICKETS and INFO HERE
These are on at 2pm and 3pm respectively on Saturday and Sunday next the 23rd and 24th of February - tickets are only €6 for students and €8 for adults!
There are LOTS of productions on for the next week or two as part of this festival ... have a look!
CHICAGO - This Broadway Show is the big Trinity College Musical this year at The O'Reilly Theatre and ITW Grad and Teacher Jordan Brown is in charge of the Props! It also features ITW Grad Rachel Galvin as Velma Kelly and is sure to be a massive hit with our Teens and Young Adults! Unfortunately it completely Sold Out while I was writing this email!
CABARET! - This iconic show is the UCD Musical and you can see it in the Astra Hall UCD from the 26th Feb to 2nd March. Really for students over 15yrs of age I'd say and a great chance to see what you can do if you keep up your Musical Theatre when you got to college if you find yourself in UCD! TICKETS HERE
The Cripple of Inismaan at The Gaiety Theatre is a great play by Irish writer Martin McDonagh and I would highly recommend all my Speech & Drama students 12yrs up going to see this production. This is a playwright that they will be looking at for their grades and there are monologues and duologues from this play that are great for them to use on their grades from grade 8 up! Chaos - performed by The Young Dramatic Arts Theatre Company is on in The HELIX Theatre on March 3rd at 4pm and 7pm (running time 1 hour) - YDA is the ITW Youth Theatre Company which is run for, and by, the Young Adult students themselves under the direction of Anna Hetherton (herself an ITW Graduate) The cast will then bring the production to Nottingham in the UK to participate in the NT Connections Festival there at the beginning of April! Thanks to all those who came to the Greatest Showman fundraiser last Friday night - your support is appreciated. Now come and see the students in action on a professional stage! Cathy and the Cliffs - a celebration of the music of Kate Bush by ITW Graduate Clodagh Long - Wednesday 27th February at 8.00pm in Arthurs Blues and Jazz Club Thomas Street and there is a good group of older teens and parents and teachers going for a social night out! Clodagh taught several really successful workshops in ITW over the past few weeks and is going to teach on our Mary Poppins Camp this Easter! This is going to be a great night out! MADAGASCAR!! This fun Musical is coming on tour from the UK and stars X Factor Winner Matt Terry as Alex and ITW Grad Shane McDaid as one of the Penguins in this madcap musical show for all the family. TICKETS HERE
Rathmines & Rathgar Musical Society are staging The Sound of the Musicals in the National Concert Hall on the 10,11,13 & 14th of April and ITW Head of Singing Georgia Snow will be performing! TICKETS HERE
ITW Students Alex Deegan, Olivia Mc Kevitt and Noah Scolard star in hilarious short film First Disco which is on as the opening short on Thursday this week at 12.45pm in Dundrum Cinema before Rafiki TICKET LINK HERE as part of the Dublin International Film Festival.
You can also see ITW Students Lee and Luke O'Donoghue in another comic short film MARY at The Lighthouse Cinema as part of a screening of a whole host of shorts in the Dublin Film Festival on Saturday 23rd February at 6.00pm. TICKETS
