It all started when…
My name is Ellen West, i am a singing teacher here at ITW. I have been teaching exam syllabus for the last two years. Prior to this I was assisting singing teachers and taking music courses to further my knowledge on how to teach. I’m hugely passionate about singing and I believe this makes me a fantastic teacher. It is super important when learning how to perform that you focus on the basics such as diaphragm breathing and the theory of music. My students often compare me to Mary poppins because I am fun but I can definitely be strict when needed. This year I will be the musical director of senior musical theatre this has been a huge goal for so long. I believe speaking to a child and explaining everything instead of telling them what to do makes a huge difference. Listening to the needs of the child is my biggest focus sometimes children don’t have the energy to give me 100% and that is okay. I have been teaching singing within the summer camps for 4 years and it is one of the highlights of my year. You get to meet a lot of future students and show them just how much of a confidence boost performing can be.
