Have you ever belted out “Suddenly Seymour” with dramatic flair? Performed “Dentist!” like a total Broadway villain? Or secretly dreamed of playing Audrey II—the sassiest plant in musical theatre history?
Then you would’ve thrived at the Independent Theatre Workshop’s (ITW) Broadway Summer Camp, where the theme from July 21st to 25th was the zany, spooky, and wildly fun Little Shop of Horrors!
From July 21st to 25th, our talented young performers stepped into Skid Row and onto the stage with all the passion, personality, and powerhouse vocals needed to bring this cult classic to life 💚🌆
Under the guidance of professional directors and choreographers, the campers explored everything, they created their own mini-scenes, built props, and even staged a performance.
With powerful ensemble numbers and solo showcases, our young performers gave it their all capturing the humor, heart, and magic of this quirky Broadway performance. 🌿
🎭 More Than Just a Performance
Under the guidance of professional directors and choreographers, the campers went beyond the script. They created mini-scenes, built props, explored character work, and staged an unforgettable performance filled with powerful ensemble numbers and standout solo moments. The result? A camp experience full of humor, heart, and just the right amount of horror. 🌿
Behind the scenes, the energy was just as electric. Each day was packed with vocal warm-ups, games, theatre crafts, and laughter, all designed to help students express themselves and build confidence both on and off stage.
Whether playing a streetwise shopkeeper, a comical and somewhat naïve journalist, a man-eating plant, invested police officers, or curious bystanders, each camper had their moment to shine.
💬 Camper Spotlight: Marita, Age 17
“My favorite part was meeting so many people, it’s a tight-knit group that’s always welcoming. I’ve done drama since I was a kid, usually one show a year, but I really miss it during the holidays.”
“My family is visiting Ireland from Germany, so we looked for a theatre program here, and we found this one! I’m so happy we did!!”
🌟 A “Killer” Week of Talent
ITW’s Little Shop of Horrors camp wasn’t just about performing—it was about becoming performers.
Campers left with stronger voices, bolder stage presence, and a deeper love for musical theatre.
And the theatre magic doesn’t stop there...
🎟️ Bonus Surprise: See Little Shop Live!
As part of their Little Shop of Horrors week, ITW students had the chance to attend a professional production of the musical in Dublin. 🎭
This outing gave our young performers a unique opportunity to see live on stage the show they had been working on all week. Enthusiastic after the performance, they greatly appreciated the staging, performances, and energy of the production, a wonderful way to connect their own creative work with a high-level professional show.
This inspiring experience deepened their passion for musical theatre and allowed them to see, in full scale, what they are capable of achieving!
They were especially inspired for their respective roles during the ITW performance on Friday in front of their own audience.
Bravo to our spectacular campers and the incredible creative team who brought Little Shop to life! 👏🪴
